Route: Rostock - Ventspils v.v.
New service Travemuende-Ventspils v.v. as of 19 January 2010
Scandlines strengthens its freight-based route network to the Baltic States. As of January 19, 2010 the company offers a new combined freight/passenger service from Travemuende to Ventspils (Latvia) with initially two weekly departures per direction. The new service will be operated with the RoPax-vessel "Urd", offering a capacity for 186 passengers / drivers as well as 1,598 lane metres for freight.
It is further planned to add the second RoPax-vessel to the new service as of February already, increasing the frequency to 4 weekly departures per direction.
The Port of Travemuende has a very interesting location with excellent access to and from the Western European market. Trucks save around 120km German motorway and are able to unload earlier resp. reload later than today, as the known Rostock-Ventspils schedule with only 27 hours crossing time will also be offered to/from Travemuende. This combined with intermodal capabilities and improved trucking possibilities in Travemuende will further strengthen our cross Baltic route network.
A future integration of the port of Rostock into the new service is currently under consideration and will be decided in the short term. The Rostock-Ventspils service stops for the time being after last departure from Rostock on January 16, since the currently operated charter vessel “Fellow” will be re-delivered to the owner.
