11.05.2006 Scandlines shipping company still on course for growth in cargo transport

The German-Danish shipping company Scandlines AG increased its cargo business once again in the first three months of this year.
By the end of March 2006, more than 242,000 trucks and trailers had been transported on the company’s Baltic Sea routes in the triangle between Germany, Denmark, Sweden and the Baltic States, i.e. around 17,000 more units (+ 7.6 %) than in the same period of the previous year, announced the company on the occasion of the RoRo 2006 international trade fair taking place in Ghent (Belgium) from 16 – 18 May 2006.

Considerable growth particularly on the lines to and from Scandinavia due to greatly increased traffic from the new EU Member States

“The Scandlines shipping line achieved substantial growth in the transport of trucks in 2005. For the first time in Scandlines’ history, we carried more than 1 million trucks on our route network across the Baltic Sea. This corresponds to a growth of 5.5% compared with the previous year”, reported CFO Uwe Bakosch.
